This past weekend Whole Foods had a promotion for 50% off all ice creams and I went nuts (for good reason). Pints that normally run upwards of $8 were $4 and I thrusted my money at several. While stuffing my face and pigging out on the couch (3 pints down), I realized there isn’t a solid list out there for what ice creams to try both at home & purchase in the store.
Here’s 12 ice cream flavors you absolutely need to try!
Honorable Mention: Berry Chantilly Cake (absolutely worth it!)
Strawberry Buttermilk – Jeni’s

There’s nothing better than fresh strawberry ice cream. Jeni’s goes further by adding a smooth buttermilk flavoring to this creamy scoop. Available in pints and in their scoop shop!
No-churn Peach Ice Cream – Olives & Thyme

One of my favorite food blogs, Olives & Thyme, has the best (and most unique) ice cream recipes. This one is a no-brainer. Peach Ice Cream with a bourbon peach pecan syrup that’ll make you crave your next bite.
Monster Cookie Ice Cream – The Kitchen Conversation

Okay, I’m a bit biased! But this recipe is so worth the time. No churn, and filled with a chocolatey-crunch in each bite.
Mango Strawberry – N!CK’s

Mangos & Strawberries are mostly in smoothies, but never in ice cream. That changes today with this pint of mango goodness surrounded by strawberry swirls.
Loaded Cake Batter – Broma Bakery

Another food blog I absolutely love. Sarah (Broma Bakery) makes ice cream taste so good! Funfetti is generally reserved for cakes and cookies, but there’s something nostalgic about a fun sprinkle in each scoop.
Root Beer Float – Jeni’s

It goes without saying, a root beer float is insanely nostalgic and delicious. If you don’t have a root beer or vanilla ice cream on deck, this alternate is so much easier (and tastier). Jeni’s never misses with their classic buttermilk-based ice cream with incredible flavors.
Lemon & Blueberries Parfait Ice Cream – Jeni’s

This is hands down one of my favorite Jeni’s flavors. I was skeptical of a lemon ice cream, but when I saw the blueberry swirl, I knew I needed a scoop. It’s tart and incredibly lemon-y with blueberry swirls throughout. SO GOOD.
Sicilian Pistachio – Van Leeuwen

I love pistachio muffins, cookies, and of course it doesn’t stop with ice cream. Notable for their scoop shops throughout the country (which I’m obsessed with), Van Leeuwen hits the nail on the head with this incredible ice cream flavor. They describe it as “Special pistachios only found on Mount EtnaRenowned for their fragrance and flavor.”
Brown Butter Peach Cobbler – Alec’s Ice Cream

If you’re wanting a bit of that fall flavor mid-summer, this is definitely the flavor for you. A nutty brown butter-based ice cream with chunky bits of oat and a cinnamon peach cobbler swirl.
Palm Springs Banana Chocolate Date Shake – Alec’s Ice Cream

There’s a lot of ingredients in the title, but all you need to know is: it’s worth your $$. Though I’m not a full fan of bananas outside of baked goods (a big NO to banana yogurt or banana splits), this ice cream is a hot take on the infamous “Date Shake” with bananas, dates, cinnamon (I love a good cinnamon swirl), and dark chocolate chips. A must try!
